The St. Clair Inn Wedding DJ in St. Clair

If you are getting married at the St. Clair Inn in St. Clair, you picked the grandest room on the river. Here is what makes it special, and what I would plan for as your DJ.

The venue

The St. Clair Inn sits at 500 North Riverside Avenue, right on the St. Clair River. It opened in 1926 and was fully renovated in 2019, with stories of a Prohibition speakeasy in its past. The centerpiece is the 3,800 square foot View Ballroom, with floor to ceiling windows looking out on the river and a private terrace where guests watch the freighters go by. The ballroom hosts up to 250 guests for a reception.

Ceremony on the water

The Riverside Lawn holds waterfront ceremonies with the river as the backdrop. An outdoor ceremony here means a separate ceremony audio setup: wireless mics that cut through river wind, and a clean self contained system for prelude through recessional. The lawn and the ballroom are two different sound jobs, and any DJ working this venue should plan them that way.

How the night flows

Cocktail hour typically moves to the terraces and patios at sunset, with the river doing most of the entertaining. Then the party comes inside to the View Ballroom. That wall of windows keeps the room feeling open deep into the night, and it takes lighting beautifully. Uplighting around the ballroom plus movement over the dance floor turns a classic room into a modern party.

With 106 guest rooms and three private cottages on site, out of town guests stay where the party is. Nobody is driving home.

What that means for your music

A room with this much glass and this many hard surfaces needs a tuned system, not just a loud one. I plan speaker placement so the dance floor hits hard while the dinner tables can still hold a conversation. Announcements, introductions, and toasts carry to every table, including the terrace.

Before your date

Before your wedding, I confirm the load in route, the power placement, and the full timeline with the venue coordinator. Setup is finished and tested long before your guests arrive.

A venue with this much history deserves a night that lives up to it.
