The venue
The DoubleTree sits at 800 Harker Street in Port Huron, right on the St. Clair River. For weddings, the winning combination here is an outdoor ceremony followed by an indoor reception. Your guests get the riverfront for the vows and a proper ballroom for the party, without anyone driving between locations.
The events team is the real story. Samantha Redinger, the sales manager, is my main contact and the reason everything runs on time. For private events, Alexandra on the operations team handles the day of details. Ceremony sound outdoors
An outdoor ceremony here needs its own dedicated sound setup. I run the ceremony off a separate rig: wireless microphones for the officiant and readers, plus a portable speaker tuned for open air. At the June wedding the ceremony included live singers, so I ran three wireless mics through a small mixer into a battery powered speaker. Clean, simple, and every vow was heard.
The key detail couples miss: the outdoor ceremony and the indoor reception are two completely separate sound jobs. I bring a separate ceremony system so nothing gets moved or rewired while your guests are finding their seats inside.
The reception flow
Cocktail hour typically runs in its own space while the reception room gets its final touches. Then the grand entrance, first dance, dinner, toasts, and open dancing follow in the ballroom. At the June wedding we did the grand entrance and first dance back to back at 6:15, dinner and speeches through 7:30, then open dancing until the end of the night. That pacing works beautifully in this room because the staff keeps dinner service tight, which hands the floor to your DJ right on schedule.
For the September birthday party, the format was simpler: background music through dinner, requests all night, no formal dances. The room handles both styles easily.
Sound in the ballroom
This is a real ballroom with real volume needs. I bring full range speakers plus a subwoofer so the dance floor hits hard without the dinner tables getting blasted. Announcements, toasts, and introductions carry to every table. If your guest count pushes past 100, speaker placement matters more than speaker size, and I plan the coverage with the room layout in front of me.

Working with the DoubleTree team
Load in is coordinated with the events team in advance. For the September event, Samantha confirmed a 1:30 arrival for a 4:00 guest start, which gave me plenty of time for setup, sound check, and a clean room before anyone walked in. That is the standard here: professional staff, clear communication, and a room that is ready when your guests arrive.
